February 2012 Scholarship List

NAME:  ELKS TEENAGER OF THE MONTH

Amount:  $500

Criteria:  High School senior with high GPA, extracurricular activities and must be US Citizen.  Application available in the counseling center.

Due:  Turn in to Mrs. Robles as soon as you are done with it.

NAME:  THE SAN DIEGO FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS (COMMON APPLICATION)

AMOUNT: Varies $500-$15,000

Criteria: The SD Foundation common application allows students to apply to more than 100 scholarships in one application.

DUE: February 9, 2012:  Deadline to register as a new user in the SD Foundation’s on-line application database.

          February 13, 2012:  Deadline for application and required documents to be submitted on line and official transcripts to be postmarked and mailed to SD Foundation. 

NAME:  FORD SALUTE TO EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

AMOUNT: 100 $1,000 SCHOLARSHIPS  of the 100 winners one students also wins new ford car.

CRITERIA:  Open to all high school seniors regardless of GPA who are residents of San Diego.  Please visit www.salutetoeducation.com to apply.

NAME:  San Diego County Federation of Republican Women

AMOUNT:  $1,000- $2,000

CRITERIA:  Open to high school seniors who can demonstrate their ability to think constructively on matters affecting their government.  Must write an essay on “What the U.S. Constitution Means To Me.”  Applications available in the counseling center.

DUE:  February 21, 2012

NAME:  SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MILITARY CHILDREN

AMOUNT:  $1500 minimum per commissary

CRITERIA:  Open to dependent unmarried children under age 23 of active duty personnel, reserve/guard and retired military members, or survivors of service members who died while on active duty may apply for this scholarship.  Applicants must enroll or planning to enroll full-time in the fall of 2012 in an undergraduate program of studies leading to a bachelor’s degree at a college or university.  Applicant must have a minimum cumulative unweighted gpa of 3.0.  Please visit www.militaryscholar.org or www.commissaries.com  to apply.

NAME:  SUHSD NIA SCHOLARS AWARD

AMOUNT: VARIES

CRITERIA:  Open to SUHSD students of African or African American descent with a minimum 2.5 gpa and have applied to vocational school, community college, or university as a full-time student for the fall of 2012.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

NAME:  BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

AMOUNT:  $2,000- $25,000

CRITERIA: Open to high school seniors who plan to enroll in a four-year college or university and plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry.  Applications available at www.buickachievers.com

NAME:  2012-2013 COX CARES SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT:  UP TO $10,000

CRITERIA:  Open to students who will graduate in June 2012 form SD high school, have a 2.5 gpa, attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in California as a full time student, exhibit a financial need, demonstrate a strong commitment to civic participation through involvement in school, work, and community activities, live in a Cox Communications service area, and demonstrate the ability to overcome life’s challenges. NAME:  SUHSD KARANGALAN SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT:  $200-$700

CRITERIA:  Open to SUHSD high school seniors of Filipino/Filipino American descent with a minimum 3.0 gpa and have applied to a 4-year college or university as a full-time student.  Applications available in the counseling center.

NAME:  THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION SAN DIEGO CHAPTER #21 SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT:  $1,000

CRITERIA:  One scholarship open to a male/female student pursuing any college degree who has a parent employed in the San Diego construction industry.  Second scholarship is open to a female student pursuing a degree in a construction related profession such as architecture, engineering/ and or construction management.  Applications available in the counseling center or at www.nawicsd.org

NAME:  2012 CABRILLO CIVIC CLUBS OF CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT:  $500

CRITERIA:  Open to senior students of Portuguese descent on father’s or mother’s side, be a US citizen or permanent resident, have a minimum 3.50 grade point average, and participate in at least three extra-curricular activities while in high school.  Applications available in the counseling center or at www.cabrillocivicclubs.org

NAME:  ITALIAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION SCHOLARSHIPS

AMOUNT:  $400

CRITERIA:  Open to graduating high school seniors who are Roman Catholic of Italian descent with a cumulative gpa of at least 3.2.  Applications available in the counseling center or at www.icf.org

NAME:  PARENTS AND FRIENDS OF LESBIANS AND GAYS SD COUNTY CHAPTER

CRITERIA:  Open to high school senior continuing higher education with a 3.0 overall gpa, and resident of SD county.  Applications available in the counseling center.
