AVID Scholarship Opportunites

Scholarship Opportunites

University Club Lamp of Learning Scholarship-AVID Juniors Only
The University Club “Lamp of Learning” Scholarship is specifically designed for outstanding San Diego County AVID juniors, selected by their AVID teacher/coordinator for their strong academic performance and four-year college potential. For this scholarship award, applicants must also demonstrate high academic potential, positive role model/leadership qualities, and a high degree of motivation necessary to successfully complete a four-year college curriculum which may be anywhere in the United States. Scholarship grants will be based on student qualifications and financial needs as determined by the application requirements, and will apply to tuition and related fees only. Applicants are also required to remain in AVID, meet all A-G requirements, have taken or will take SAT/ACT exams, and be enrolled in AP/Honors courses.

Each year up to five juniors (and two alternates) will be selected as nominees for the next year’s scholarship award. Candidates are selected by a committee consisting of University Club and AVID members. The winner, to be announced upon graduation from high school, will receive $10,000 paid to the university or college selected by the student; $2,500 each year for four years. The second through fifth place finalists will receive a $1,000 scholarship award. Applications are available for input and downloading beginning January of each year.

Dollars for Scholars
Each year the AVID Dollars for Scholars Board has a fundraiser, usually a "walk/run" at a local university to assist school sites in raising their own funds. The SDCOE AVID Dollars for Scholars Program also raises funds for countywide scholarships. This award annually goes to the senior whose AVID program has had the greatest participation or participants at this fundraising event.
