San Diego Foundation
The Common Scholarship Application allows you to apply for several different scholarships using one application and submitting one set of application materials. All Common Scholarships require an application, a two-page personal statement, two letters of recommendation on official letterhead, official transcripts in a sealed envelope, and a copy of tax forms filed from the previous year. Some scholarships require additional materials, such as an essay, or forms verifying residency. Please review the criteria for each scholarship for specific information. More than 85 scholarships are offered through the Common Application. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $15,000, with an average award of $2,500. Most scholarships are specific to tuition, books and fees, though some include room and board. The San Diego Foundation’s Common Scholarship Application is available annually in late November. San Diego Indian American Society Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Scholarship
The San Diego Indian American Society will award a minimum of ten Mahatma Gandhi Memorial scholarships to San Diego county high school graduates. They will be honored with a Congressional Certificate of Achievement and cash awards. The SDIA Society has decided to offer scholarship awards of over $30,000 for this annual competition. The award ceremony is to be organized each summer. It will feature talks by selected award winners and invited dignitaries. To be considered for this scholarship, the graduating seniors must have a grade point average of at least 3.8. The selection is open to all irrespective of his or her national origin. Application-PDF or Application-Word San Diego International Sports Foundation Established in 1999 by Ron Fowler, founding Chairman of the San Diego International Sports Foundation, Brad Fowler Memorial Scholarship Fund offers a one-year, $5,000 scholarship to high school seniors in San Diego County each year. The recipients must have demonstrated his or her ability to overcome personal obstacles associated with drugs or alcohol, a strong commitment to athletics and continuing their personal growth and development through higher education.
Cal Award Achievement Program gives students, who have earned their admission to UC Berkeley but cannot afford to attend, the opportunity to still go to the university through scholarship funding and support services.

University Club Lamp of Learning Scholarship-AVID Juniors Only
The University Club “Lamp of Learning” Scholarship is specifically designed for outstanding San Diego County AVID juniors, selected by their AVID teacher/coordinator for their strong academic performance and four-year college potential. For this scholarship award, applicants must also demonstrate high academic potential, positive role model/leadership qualities, and a high degree of motivation necessary to successfully complete a four-year college curriculum which may be anywhere in the United States. Scholarship grants will be based on student qualifications and financial needs as determined by the application requirements, and will apply to tuition and related fees only. Applicants are also required to remain in AVID, meet all A-G requirements, have taken or will take SAT/ACT exams, and be enrolled in AP/Honors courses.
Each year up to five juniors (and two alternates) will be selected as nominees for the next year’s scholarship award. Candidates are selected by a committee consisting of University Club and AVID members. The winner, to be announced upon graduation from high school, will receive $10,000 paid to the university or college selected by the student; $2,500 each year for four years. The second through fifth place finalists will receive a $1,000 scholarship award. Applications are available for input and downloading beginning January of each year.

Dollars for Scholars
Each year the AVID Dollars for Scholars Board has a fundraiser, usually a "walk/run" at a local university to assist school sites in raising their own funds. The SDCOE AVID Dollars for Scholars Program also raises funds for countywide scholarships. This award annually goes to the senior whose AVID program has had the greatest participation or participants at this fundraising event.
AVID Senior Standout (Due Feb. 24, 2012)
The AVID Senior Standout award is the top award for one outstanding AVID senior in the Region 9 AVID Program. AVID coordinators/teachers can nominate one AVID senior per school site. To be considered for a monetary award, senior standout candidates must have a minimum of four years in AVID. Completed applications will also be considered for corporate scholarship awards as well as Founder's Scholarship (for San Diego County students only).

AVID Founder's Scholarship - $35,000
The AVID Founder's Scholarship is a top AVID Scholarship of $35,000.00 which will be awarded to the top finalists selected from the AVID Senior Standout applicants. The Founder's Scholarship will require a separate interview and appearances at the SDCOE/AVID Senior Awards Ceremony and the AVID International Summer Institute. Only San Diego County AVID seniors *(four or more years in AVID required) will be considered.
